Malouf House  HAMPTON

If space is curved then this house certainly fits in to the universe well! From the moment you are welcomed at the front door the energy of the sweeping walls draws you in. Passing a sunken Sitting room on the left, you enter the large central space with soaring ceilings and a beautiful veneered timber kitchen bathed in light from the tall north windows and doors. From here you can go outside to a protected north courtyard, or through to a Painting Studio on the south. Bedrooms and bathrooms are conveniently round the corner.

Wherever you look Freda's beautiful detailing is apparent - in the concealed lighting, the kitchen cupboard inlays, the cupboard door handles, the external brickwork patterns and the curves of the parapet of the front verandah. The materials used are sumptuous - natural clay brick, cedar, American Oak veneer, slate floor tiles and painted internal brick with a soft bagged and painted finish. This is the kind of house that will still be loved in a hundred years time: sunny in winter, cool in summer, easy to maintain and designed with personal care.
